Is it worth the extra money?

if you have the money for the dual core, I'd say get it, I don't follow AMD all that much but you could maybe look into a slower X2. I've got a 3.2 pentium HT and a 2.8 Pentium D and the D I think is significantly better, and there is a moderate speed difference between the two

Well the X2 3800+ is the slowest dual core AMD on the market. It's a better choice in my view than the A64 3700+. I would still get an X2 over the Pentium Ds because it is generally true, that they perform better (when comparing logically) ;)
