Is it worth to wait for Radeon HD8000 series

Hi,

I am looking to build a new high-end computer, as of now I would add GPU card nVidea GTX780 but the question is, isnt it worth waiting up to 3 months to put in the Radeon HD8970?

I read things that the radeon HD8970 is going to be quite a great compatitor to nVidea GTX Titan and will have 6GB memory while GTX 780 only has 3GB. I am stating the memory size because future proofness is quite important aspect on a new PC to me.

So what do you think. Is it worth waiting or get it now?

You really only need over 3gb of memory if you are playing on multiple monitors or 1440 or above.

Does the 8xxx series have an official release date yet?

There's never a good time to buy... just buy what you can now if you've got money. New stuff is coming out all the time. By the time you got a new 8970 delivered to your door, somebody will have come out with something faster. ;)

Unless you're planning to buy in the future of course, in which case buy what you can when you have the money.

Yeah its a tough decision now. I have been a Radeon supporter for about 5 years because they always had a cheaper and usually more powerful (or at least very similar) GPU, so I am kind of torn now.

What is the rest of your specs.

PSU, gaming resolution, CPU etc?

MoBo: ASUS H87M-PLUS
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K
CPU cooling: Zalman CNPS11X Extreme
GPU: nVidea GTX 780 (model GIGABYTE N780OC-3GD)
SSD: Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 240GB
SSD: Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 120GB
RAM: Kingston 2x8GB
PSU: Corsair TX850
Case: Cooler Master HAF X 942
BlueRay: Burner LG BH10LS-LRBB

I will be using 1080p screen for gaming and may additionally hook up an additional 1080p screen but for work only.

I don't think really anything in your machine requires updating. If I was to spend another 780 in there because at 1080p you wont need more than 3GB VRAM anytime in the forseeable future and 780SLi should be a lot faster (your PSU and CPU can handle it too). But really, you don't need it at all.

I see, well my only concern is that I buy the GTX 780 and a month or two later the Radeon HD8970 is released at slightly lower price and better specs.

I guess that is quite common with hardware nowadays anyway.

No, it is not worth to getting GTX 780 or 8970 right now if you don't make ton of money. Beside no game highest recommend like that. Like right now hightest recommend are GTX 690 and TITAN.

I am waiting for real benchmark results but right now I am thinking of going with Radeon R9 290X because it seems as a more powerful GPU than nVidea GTX780 or TITAN for a slightly higher price.
