Is it worth upgrading my Amd 64bit 4000+ cpu?

Hi,
I am new to this forum, although I am not new to computers..
However, as much information someone might have (not that I am suggesting I am amazing, I just mean feel free to the proper tech terms) an outside opinion is always benificial and I would greatly appreciate some help with my conumdrum! :D

Note:this is related to Graphics aswell

Well the problem is I have a:-

4000+ 64bit cpu
2gigs of 400mhz 3200 (crucial) RAM
X800XT Pro Platinum 256mb 256mbit
A bloody nice case.. (doesn't look nice but is a 110 pound thermal case)
av8 mobo.. Doesn't support Pci Exp, amongst other things.

Anyway,
I am seriously considering upgrading the Graphics, but my questions are..

1)Which graphics card? (I know it's brief, but I just want to get a high end graphics card which doesn't get let down by the cpu)
2)If I were to get, for example a 7800gt or whatever (basically I just mean a really good one) then will I get much out of my system with that cpu (possibly) holding it back?
3)Will my cpu hold things back? is it still a good processor? I am not rich so if it is only a slight performance boost with other processors then I dunno if it is worth it (yet)

well i wouldn't mess with that setup, if it isn't skt 939, i'd just wait a while until it won't play any new games and then buy a whole new setup with skt 939 and a pci e video card, as it is now you can buy decent agp video cards but it really isn't worth the money if you already have one that works. PCI E would be a better investment. Thats just my opinion
 
When his setup won't play any games socket 939 will be quite outdated, at that point it would be wiser to get either an AM2 or AM3 system depending on when it isn't up to par. Or a Core 2 Duo setup.
 
Yeah, just wait for a new system, there isn't much point in upgrading your current system.

And btw, your RAM runs at 200MHz, not 400MHz.

well my point was simply that he shouldn't upgrade his current system, i figured he probably wasn't happy with his current system so he'd be upgrading before 939 is outdated but i don't really know.

Ok, thx for help, I can see my main problem is most probably impatience really..
It's just that you know the feeling when you boot up a game which doesn't run on full, for the first time, it can make you do rash things.

Oblivion and Call of Juarez are two titles which I would like running on highest, offcourse it comes down to value aswell, if It's just two games (Which is pretty much is for now) then it is not really worth it, however Crysis isn't gonna run well on my machine I wouldn't of thought.

I don't know much about Cpu's internally really.. but generally speaking I expected much more out of the 4000+ processor, in that 3d mark gives the cpu test a low score, or at least it seems low, I think it was something like 700 marks or something, maybe it is cos it was on full, I don't quite know how it works but I just mean I don't notice much difference on the surface between my processor and say.. an amd 32 bit 3000+, although offcourse I would notice that an amd 4000+ runs better on games etc.. ok well maybe I contridicted myself a bit there, my ultimate problem is I don't see how a processor like the amd 4000+ , with a mere 2.4ghz speed and 2 mb cache (I think it is 2mb) can be FAR superior to a p4 2.4ghz, I know that cpus are no longer just about mhz, but surely just because an amd has a better build quality or whatever it is, it doesnt mean it would be so good?!
even amd 4800+ runs at 2.4ghz I believe, I just don't get it..

Hope some of that makes sense, what I am saying is if the mhz arn't the main thing that makes the difference, then why arn't the other "special" charateristics of the amd listed?
