I've got an Asus P8Z77 LE Plus and was just wondering if anyone knows about the Marvell controller that runs the esata port. i haven't been able to find anything about it. i was just wondering as i haven't used it yet and it doesn't show up in the bios that i can see. is it hotswapable? where do i find it to adjust settings for it? First solo build and have always used an sata-esata adapter prior to this.

thanks for the help

As long as it's set to AHCI then yes, it's hot swappable. You'll want to eject drives first though to prevent data corruption, but once you do you can immediately unplug it and plug in another drive.

how do i see if its set to ahci? i can't find it in the bios. i'm guessing it would be as all the other ports on the board are ahci default. makes sense right? i'm just puzzled about why i can't see it to check/change settings on it. i guess it'll show up somewhere once i use it. was wondering about plugging it in when the computer is running but i think i'll do it from a cold boot to be safe. should be able to find it then.

Normally it's listed as eSATA Operation (ATA or AHCI)

why does the first post show up wider than the others?

I don't know what you mean.

Oh on my screen the first post shows up wider than the others. must be something here.

i'll take a look for it once i have it in use. i'm also new to win 7, (moved up from xp) and on my old computer i had to enable the sata ports in the bios before i could use them, i was thinking that i would have to do the same thing here. it should just recognize it like my intel controller saw my other drives though right?

excellent thank you. once it was plugged in the controller showed up in device manager.

was just stumped that i couldn't see it before but it's probably because it just hadn't been used.

this computer is way friendlier than my old one. that one had all kinds of stupid rules i had to abide by. :D

thanks again for the help
