Is Microsoft Security Essential good?

Ditto. Seems to be fine from experience of others.

I tried it and ditched it because it tried to install IE8 which doesn't work for me. As far as I was concerned, MSE should not be dictating what browser version I used just because IE is their software.
 
I have XP so I use MSE with Comodo firewall as well but most of my family and friends have Win7 and just use MSE with the built-in Windows firewall.
Everyone is extremely happy with it and there have been no infections.

Im not using it. Not yet. I still get a request for update and makes no diff. I use it for updating only. still use firefox. Its just a security and critical update i think. Not a biggie. i will.
 
MSE works good for me, I'm using WinXP Service Pack 3 with the built-in firewall. I recommend it to my friends and family members.
 
I have been using MSE on my own computers as well as my family and friends and they have all been happy with it, they have yet to encounter a virus or issue since I installed it for them
