Is my Corsair A 70 doing a good job, please check temps

hello. so im using corsairs A 70 (not be confused with the H 70). its an air cooler and has 2 x 120 mm fans on it with push pull configuration. i have the fans on max settings or 2000rpm. im running a phenom II x 6 @ 4Ghz. voltage at 1.45v. idle im running 40c, and under load i reach 52c. im wondering if this is okay temps for my Overclocked CPU or if i can do better with a different cooler. ive tried many different fans, and it really makes no difference. and my ambient room temp is always 26c or around 76f. anyone have any input.

Your temps are OK
 
alright, i thought they were alright, just wanted to make sure. so what about improving them? what will keep things cooler than what i have, for around $60 or less?

I don't really think there is much improvement to be made. 52c is a good temp to be at under load, perfectly normal. Are you planning on overclocking anymore?
 
mmm maybe a little, but i dont think this chip will go much higher. ive gotton it to 4.2 Ghz TOPED out at 1.55v and the performance/heat ratio is not to my likings so i think 4Ghz is a final overclock. so ill stick with my a70 then. by the way, would overclocking my bus to 250mhz and setting the multiplyer to 16 for 4Ghz give me better performance then just upping the multiplyer to 20 and leaving the bus at 200mhz? thanks for the help.
 
Have you got Cool'N'Quiet enabled? It will help your idle temps a fair bit.

Also, I hope you used some decent thermal paste. the proper method for using paste is:

1) Cleaning the old paste away with isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth, or acticlean etc. Be careful not to touch the cleaned cpu or cooler with your fingers, the natural oils won't help your cooling

2) Applying a small, rice grain sized amount of paste to the centre of the CPU. No spreading required, the cooler will do this.

3) Seating the cooler, being careful not to lift it up after it touches the paste (that causes air bubbles which is bad for cooling)

4) Making sure the cooler is seated tightly and securely, that should be it. Check your temperatures before and after. Some pastes (like Arctic Silver 5) require a cure time (this varies, but AS5 needs 200 hours before it works to full capacity)
 
linkin, i have applied artic silver the correct way. do you mention this because you see something funny about my temps, or just stating the procedure for the record? and if my cpu is overclocked as well as over volted from 1.3v to 1.45, can i still enable cool n quiet? i thought this was a no when overclocking. ill try it now and see what happens i suppose.
 
yeah linkin, i had a feeling it wouldnt make a difference. it actualy made my systme act funny when i enabled coon n quiet. keeping my cpu at 18% usage. i un did my overclock and it ran normal, so running it while overclocked isnt a good concept i suppose. your the first ive ever heard say to turn it on even though i stated i was overclocked.

anyways, i think im good for now. id imagine overcocking via bus rather than multiplyer would achieve greater performance. i could be wrong. just wondering which way would be better to overclock to 4Ghz (20x200 or 16x250)?
 
Disable Cool'n'Quiet while you are testing your overclock, once it's stable (20 runs of intel burn test on maximum or an overnight bout of prime95) you can re-enable it and it shouldn't cause problems.

Yes, overclocking by bus yields better results. The higher the NB clock the higher your performance will go. HT can stay at 2000mhz, but push the NB as far as it can go. 4GHz on the cores and 2GHz NB will have inferior performance to anything with a higher NB clock. I have my NB clock at 2500MHz for the record.

Also keep an eye on temperatures, I use HWMonitor for that.
 
alright, well i know my overclock is stable, as i haver done what you said for the most part with intel burn test, as well as play games for hours on end and when i go to bed i rucode 20 + dvds using nero, so id say its stable. i read that when you increase the vcore, cool n quiet wont work right. either way, im fine with out it. im idling at 37c now, im just a little concerned when summer comes, as it will get around 80-85f in my apartment. but when i do have C n Q on it still just runs my cpu at the 4Ghz, never throttling down at all to anything lower. if i go into my bios, and set everything to auto, it will work fine, but i lose my overclock, as the bios reverts to factory settings as soon as i hit f10 and save settings. i also read that not all bios will work the same, and some are better than others when using C n Q while overclocking. maybe mine is one that does not do well. im good though. if there is any other cooler out that is around $60 or less that will halp my temps more please let me know. thanks
 
Cool'n'Quiet works just fine for me (using almost 1.5v) - What cooler are you using? If it's the stock one those temps are fine, If it's an aftermarket one the idle temp seems a little high (mine idles 20c-30c, depending on the weather, and mine's an athlon)

EDIT:You're using the A-70 :doh: sorry my brain isn't working today.
