Is my CPU fan failing?

Whenever i reboot or turn on my computer i can hear a loud weird noise, sounds kind of like straching.....

While its idle, i can hear a whistling noise, and its pretty loud.

sounds like 1 off ur fans is on the way out, take ur side panel off and carefully touch the side of all ur fans. u will feel 1 vibrating more than the others this will be the 1 that needs replacing. becareful tho not to get fingers caught in the fan it hurts, and dont touch anything else whilst its runnin.:D

I cant see the proccessor with the side cover off, because i have a sony built computer and the psu is in the middle, covering up the cpu. The only choice i have i think is to just replace the fan and see what happens.

Btw, all fans work on any mobo right?

i would try to check first just in case 1st, definetly no way of gettin to it? if u were to use something to reach behind the psu you would still feel the vibration e.g a chop stik :D you will ave to take the old 1 off 1st anyway just to confirm size and cable etc......;) it may be ur fan in ur psu also

Why are these fans making the noise?

Normally the noise would die down and would go to normal after a few seconds after boot up. But instead its continuously like that for as long as i leave my computer on....
You can normally hear it power down, but it doesnt anymore.

I heard it could be either the psu or the cpu fan..... If its the psu fan then im straight up ****ed.

no, just get a new psu, as i said try to feel where the rattle is comin from, when the bearings go they produce lots of vibration. whatever is on its way out will be shakin its nuts off.......

Buying a new psu isnt possible. Sony doesnt offer out new psu's. And i cant buy a new one because its custom built for the sony series of computers. Yes i know, very stupid.

Link?

if you could give us a link to the stats/pics of your computer then we could see what kind of psu you need. also try unplugging the cpu fan for a second and see if the sound stops. that will narrow it down for you. oh yeah one last thought this happened to me one time and actually it was my disk drive making the noise!
