Is my hard drive going bad?

I have 2 internal drives. I think they both are about 4 years old. When I do a file search and drive c is being searched it is silent but as soon as drive d starts to be searched I hear a churning sound. Is this anything to be concerned about? Also, I am thinking of building a new computer and was going to use the d drive. I did not want to spend the money to buy a new one if this one would be sufficient. Under the circumstances is it a bad idea to use this drive for the new build? Thank you in advance.

You can check out the drive using something like HD Tune. You don't say what the new build is for nor details of the drives. If the drive is IDE then it's not worth using. Hard drives are cheaper, faster and have higher capacity than 4 years ago.

I would not use the drive if its making that noise. Most likely its one of the older sata drives and they were common for making the noise. If the drive is more than 3 years old don't use it. Get a new drive that is really quiet. That drive noise would drive me up the wall. I had a client that had a drive that made that noise and I recommended to him to get a new drive and reinstall windows and we did and guess what happened a couple months later? That old drive went out. So its a good thing we put a new one in.
