is my hard drive ruined

I am trying to Restore Windows XP. I put the cd(1 of 3) in and started up my computer. I hit 1, Any Key, and Y. A window shows up and says, "Question: ? Output A:\ GHOSTERR.TXT?" there are two buttons at the Bottom YES and NO. If I hit yes, another message comes up. it says, "Error: ! Cannot open GHOSTERR.TXT - insert diskette" and there is a Yes button at the bottom. I hit yes and it brings me back to the first window.
If I hit no, another message comes up that says, "Usage Error 11030: ! Invalid destination drive" and there is an Ok button. When I hit that ok button, it shuts down the wizard and restarts my computer.
Now i figured there would be something about this problem on the internet but from where i've searched, no one has actually came up with a solution. the only things i've read is that, that means the hard drive is ruined. i kind of hope its not but i have all my files backed up so its just more of an annoyance.
Anyone who knows what im talking and/or knows how to solve the problem, preferably without killing my HD, i would really appreciate it.. thanks (sorry for the long post)

i never heard of that , but i would reformat the hdd and just install windows again, that is if u have the windows xp boot disc

i dont know if this will help but does it have a DOS mode?
if it does type in whatever drive (ex. C: ) then type "fdisk"
and see if that helps.

i was able to figure out what was wrong. i'll post why this problem happens in case anyone needs it for future refernce. i realized after double checking that my hard drive wasnt plugged in correctly. it said "Output A:\ GHOSTERR.TXT?" because, since it couldnt find a c drive, it went to the next best thing, being the A: drive. so in other words, if one comes across this message it means either your HD is plugged in correctly, or your harddrive is not working properly and is not being detected as the boot drive. i fixed the problem by getting a new hard drive (which i planned to do anyway) and it worked fine.
