is my HHD broken?

Hi,

im having problems with one of my HHD and i wonder if anyone can help me get to the bottom of it.

my current spec is:
P4 3.0 on a 875P board with both onboard SATA and Promise PDC20378 SATA controllers
SG 80g SATA 7200rpm 8mb (the one im having trouble with)
SG 250g SATA 7200rpm 16mb
running XP

the 250G HHD is brand new and has only been in a few days

the HHDs are connected to the promise control as ive benchmarked both the promise and onboard controllers and on the promise they came out about 5% faster. the 80G hold the OS and the 250G holds my data

the 80G HHD is making really odd noises the only way i can describe it is "click, click.... meep!" its very loud and sometimes but not often results in the computer freezing but mostly causes it to slow right down and not recover. Its very intermittent and i cant tell what causes it. it stops making noises if i disconnect the 250G HHD so it makes me wonder if its my setup or software casings the problem

can anyone shed some light on light on my problem

It's Hard Disk Drive, AKA HDD, not HHD

And yes, if the drive's making funny noises there's a very good chance it's dead or on it's way out.

thats what i thought but its thrown me that it only happens when im running the two drives and not when its on its own
