I posted this in the memory thread, but now I think I have a motherboard problem so here is what happened....

Was installing another memory stick, my computer started up, however the monitor wont turn on (light stays orange), it powers up, works on my other computer so I know it's not the monitor.

I removed the newer ram and still not working, the computer doesnt beep or anything, and I have no idea why all of a sudden now it's not working.

The LED light is on, fans work, no beeping, everything seems fine other than my monitor won't kick in. I did not touch the video card or any settings, all i did was insert another stick of ram, monitor didnt turn on, removed the ram, and still nothing.

I did remove my previous ram sticks one by one, then reinserted, reinserted my video card as well, no idea what to do now.....

so I called my buddy he asked me to do this and I did....

I removed all the ram.

Started up computer.... no beeping.

Removed the Video card, and the ram, no beeping

Removed the battery on motherboard.... no beeping.

He said if no beeping noises from the errors (no memory, video detected etc) ..... then basically said motherboard is toast! that the case u think?

The motherboard should beep at you if there is no memory inserted. However, if you don't have a system speaker, you won't hear any beeps anyway. Do you have a system speaker?

yes theres a speaker, I heard the beep noise before when installing new hardware and errors

Well, guess im off to buy a new machine tomorrow, lol.

Computer was old, 2004, but still decent.

Anything I can do now with it? it was a Pentium 4, 3.0 ghz.

obviously keeping the ram, dvd, hard drive etc....
but is worth keeping the processor, fans, etc? What would a computer
store give me, anything?

I'm not talking about the sounds you hear from regular speakers when have errors or connecting usb devices. There is a system speaker attached to the motherboard either directly soldered on or attached to pins where the case wires get attached to.

If you are buying totally new parts then your old ram will be useless most likely, as you either need ddr2 or ddr3 ram. And you'll find very few old P4 boards still around, Newegg has one...

It requires ddr2 667 memory. If you are gonna spend the money to get a new system then do away with the processor and memory and depending on your budget either go with a cheaper AMD system or an Intel I5 or I7 build. Also, it would be in your best interest to get a SATA hard drive as this is the new technology.

Do you have a budget in mind?

john, I dont plan on using any of it, was just curious if the chip etc is worth anything to a used computer store or just throw it in the trash.... the ram I can give to someone who needs it and same with the hard drive and DVDRW.

Yes I am on a budget, wasnt expecting this, lol, dont really have the money to spend but anwyays was looking at this one
