Quick question:

Ive got a 375 Watt Power supply in my dell XPS 400 system, with a Pentium D 820 CPU. Id like to upgrade components so that I will have:

a 8800GT, 2 gigs of DDR2 ram.

Is my power supply going to be able to cut it? I have one hard drive and one DVD burner.

Thanks.

Nope. And you won't be able to upgrade the PSU anyways. Dell's PSU's are not standard ATX types you see everyday at walmart. They require speical and [more expensive] PSU's.

Walmart. lol :P

Yeah. That's the biggest problem w/ OEM PC's. Can't upgrade hardware on most of 'em. Build one!

That's how they make money. You probably have to order a special sized one from dell on a mighty high marked up price. I was looking into my dad's dell that he bought and boy does it look funky. I looked inside and everything was placed odd and the PSU had no power switch. Odd. very Odd.

The PSU in my Sony is 280W. Sony offered to sell me a 320W for $279. With no guarantee it would fit the case.

What I have seen some people do with mixed results is, buy a new PSU and drill holes in the computer case to match up with the new PSU. But that depends on if you have some weird shaped case that has some weird shaped PSU. If that's so, then your out of luck.

I hated the case shape on my last computer as it was too small. It also ticked me off that they had one rivet in the motherboard connecting it to the case. Could I drill the rivet out to pull the motherboard out?

Not odd at all. I have an Compaq PSU with just an green light. Standard ATX. Some dells use ATX's though, might wanna check.

It's a little old by my HP doesn't have a power switch, just a green light. It has a 200W PSU and the case is too small to fit a standard size PSU. I have a 9250 and an Audigy4 in there, and I don't dare add a second hard drive.
