Is RAID-0 Really Worth iT?

Ok so here goes.

Ive designed a new system to build, which includes Core 2 Duo E6600, and 2 GB RAM.

The question is, is RAID-0 really good for its money? I know how RAID works and what its good for - but some forums say that RAID-0 (striping) really blazes up write performance. But other forums say that it 'theoretically' increases write speed, but you cant see a difference in real-life scenarios.

Guys, i need one of you who HAVE a RAID-0 system to tell me if it REALLY DOES increase speed SIGNIFICANTLY. The hard drives that im considering are:

2 x MAXTOR 320GB SATA-2 16 MB CACHE

Thanks guys!

Nah, it's not worth it. My Raptor RAID didn't give me much better performace than just a single large drive. Yes, I could tell it was faster, but not enough for me to care for another. Besides being a good bit extra, you also have much more to fail, draw more power, create more heat...etc. The only reason I'd consider it is if you need a very large drive and it's cheaper to get two smaller ones.

Thanks for your reply.

Could you actually NOTICE it go faster? Do games load faster? Does windows load faster? If it doesnt, ill invest that 100$ in the stock market =]

Thanks a lot

Oh yeah, I could notice a difference. But it's nothing major. It's sort of like do you want your computer to boot in 40 seconds, or 35 :P
