Is Ram not running at full speed?

hey there,
i was just looking in AMD Overdrive and it seems to think that my Corsair Dominator (1600MHz) is running at 803 MHz, i checked cpu-z and it says the same thing aswell.
But in the Bios it says my ram is running at 1600MHz.

i've tried running prime95 to see if it would increase to 1600MHz under load, but it didn't increase at all :(

any ideas?

thanks!

Your ram is actually right on. Ram will run at half of the speed that it is set in the BIOS. I believe that it is because of the multiplier on the ram.

Oh, well that explains a lot haha
so 1600MHz ram is actually only 800MHz ram?
for some reason i just seem to remeber that cpu-z said it was 1600MHz a while ago. looks like i remembered wrong lol

Technically yes, but 1600MHz gives 1600MHz speeds. DDR = Double Data Rate, so double 800MHz = 1600MHz

Unlike Single Data Rate RAM, DDR RAM can process information on both the rising and falling of the clock signal, rather than just on the rising, which is why you get twice the bandwidth
