I thought I've seen on here that it's bad for your computer to be put on stand-by...Is this true?

i believe all standby does is move everything to the ram, so the cpu doesnt need to be processing information and all the fans can turn off. So no, its not bad for your computer. Where aboout did you hear that?

i got a question regarding this:
if im gonna be away from my comp for a long period of time, is it better to put it in hibernate or shut it off?
i usually put it on hibernate at night before i sleep, and then turn it on after work the next day, is that ok?

thanks, sorry for the stupid question, im a noob

it doesnt really matter, although having it in hibernation still uses a little power, if its a long period of time i would just shut it off.

No, Hibernation takes an image of everything that is running on your computer, saves it and shuts down your computer completely. When you turn on your computer, the image restores everything back to the way it was prior to hibernating.

Also, there is another thread that talks about leaving a computer on for a long time.. there is little harm in doing so, both for your energy bill and your computer's health.
