Is the nettop worth it?

Hi everybody,

I'm looking at getting a small home computer just for internet use and email; no games of any sort, maybe watching some movies or something but nothing fancy. I am looking at getting an Acer AOD257 10.1" Netbook, but am not sure of the specifications yet (i don't have the second portion of the model number). So what I'm asking is;

  • How have your experiences been with Acer?
  • Do you have an Acer Netbook; would you recommend it?
  • Why/Why not?

Thanks!

Only used and have Asus Eee. Can say it works well. Like the netbook anyway. Small, light weight and portable. I would also be looking at the quality of the battery and voltage. Not familiar with yours though. Asus does have a selection and options i think for a Eee netbook. worth considering.

Smart battery if available. Daughter bought last Christmas. 6v but works. Get higher voltage like 9 or 12 smart battery.

I would also stay away from Acer; their prices are tempting, but it would be better to go with Asus or Sony. Also stay away from HP; they've really been declining in reliability over the past few years.

We have 4 Acer and 2 Asus netbooks in our family and have not had any problems with any of them. I personally like my Acer netbook better than my son's or my wife's Asus Eees due to the extremely flimsy feel to the Asus keyboard. The Acer's keyboard has a much better feel to it.

If I was going to purchase a netbook today, I would look at the Acer Aspire AO722-BZ454. It comes with 2G of RAM expandable to 4G and comes standard with Win 7 HP 64-bit while most other netbooks come with only 1G RAM expandable to 2G and ship with Win 7 HP 32-bit.
