Hello Computer Forum,

I was wondering, and my search was not broad enough, to answer this question.
Is there a difference between a gaming MB and a workstation MB?

I have tried and failed with the searching of this forum.
If i am beating a dead horse plz just post a link and send me on my way.

If not, then lets us discuss this topic i know very little about.
Like, what is a good chipset, CPU, & PSU for workstations?

Thank you for your time,

Depends on the specific board.

On workstation there isn't a huge difference from maybe Xeon and ecc support but it can vary.

It depends on what you mean by a workstation motherboard, if you mean one you find in your average business desktop, usually it's a cheap, bare bones motherboard with a limited feature set. High end workstations could include Xeon processors, and and ECC RAM with a focus on reliability and stability. Gaming motherboards range from cheap to expensive, but generally they have unique colors applied to the board and heatsinks, features like LEDs, and of course lots of BIOS features geared towards overclocking and tweaking.

Don't forget on the high end workstation stuff, you can probably run dual procs!

The only "gaming" mobo that I've seen that is also a workstation board is that Evga X58 SR2 behemoth. Man... I wish I had that thing. What a unicorn that thing was.

Those new Intel socket C232 and C236 are a pretty intriguing addition to Intels lineup. They are socket 1151 and support XeonE3-1200 v5 processors and 6th Gen Core processors which is pretty cool.

I honestly don't know if this has been done before but its pretty cool that they added a flexible platform and a good alternative to the Z170 ..etc.

Example.. Asus E3 Pro on the C232 and the Gigabyte GA X170 Extreme on the C236 there are others but those stood out, albeit at very different price points./
