Is there a good free security download out there

Hi

I am currently using a free 60 day trial of Norton Security that was already installed on my computer, it is excellent and really easy to use, however when this runs out I cannot afford to have it on subscription.

Is there anything out there for free that is just as good and covers all the aspects of security like Norton does?

I do hope I haven't put this article in the wrong place. This is my first time on a forum and am going at it a bit blind so apologies for any wrong doing.

Cheers guys

The free versions won't have all the bells and whistles that Norton internet security has. However, you install the free version of Avast or even Microsoft Security Essentials. Then you can install the free version of Malwarebytes for your malware scanner and then download a free firewall such as zonealarm.

What John said. Personally I think both Norton and McAfee are system hogs and Avast and MSE won't slow your computer down as much while still doing just a good a job (if not better than) as the payed ones.

I had Nortons, but it took a lot of memory to run. I tried MSE, but got a virus. I've tried AVG in the past as well. Right now, I'm running F-Secure, which is free through my ISP (Charter Communications). If your ISP has a free AV program, it'd be worth checking out. It's a little bit of a memory hog as well, but it seems to catch anything and everything.
