Is there a system call in operating systems that grabs the mac address burned on the nic card's rom chip? I know that you can spoof the mac at the software level with the os. But, I want to circumvent the spoofed mac and grab the real mac burned at the hardware level. What is the name of this system call? Also, is there a C wrapper?

Thanks for the reply. Those are very good links. But, just to be clear, the mac addresses that that code yields is the hardware level mac burned onto the chip and not the spoofed mac set in software, right?
