Is there any way to unzip an encripted zip file without the password?

and why was the file encrypted. If you were meant to have it then you would have the key.

no. for encrypted files like that you have to brute force it. depending upon what software you use it will take hours to weeks to crack it.

My suggestion is to use a dictionary attack, but it better be a good dictionary. this program [rarcrack.sourceforge.net works on *nix only and it is bruteforce with no dictionary. it is extreamly slow for cracking, not really worth the effort.

There are a few ( I know two great ) bruters that can crack a password with 12 letters the most and it takes 24 hours ( the most ).

I'm quite sure such crackers are illegal or at least against the forum rules, also you have to pay to get the full version ( or download it from rapidshare, again, against the forum rules ).

I'm not naming the crackers :P

^^ I was actually searching for such programs last night and came a cross a FREEWARE cracker. You basically select the file and then select a dictionary (text file with poss passwords). Then, it goes through the list and tries each password.

i doubt if he has the patience for it.
several weeks to decrypt with upper/lower case, symbols and and numbers.
very time consuming. Ive tried many. takes too long. ive let it run 24hrs a day for weeks before it took place. One thing though. the best but not for zip is
Advanced office password recovery. this sucker is instant and right now. this is whip asss.

Don't worry, my intent was to take care of company.
Our network has scoops of file in access or excel.
Some people pass or retire. there was need to build on these files and update.
cheers.
