hi,

i was working on another computer last night. it was late and i want really paying attention and i ended up repairing the current copy of xp where i wanted to use the recovery console :o

i got as far as the the 39min remaining screen before i realised what id done. i hit the off button and now im wondering if there is any way i can cancel the repair or have i gone to far already?

thanks

i dont think theres a way to stop cos windows has already started the process of copying setup files to your Hard drive and make it a bootable setup. So you have to continue

Why'd you kill the computer while it was working? What was it even a problem? The repair option doesn't change anything on your computer, besides just loading some of the base windows files.

i was going to write a new boot sector as the current one was corrupt,

i always thought that the repair wiped all your settings/programs etc but kept all my docs safe

ok, ive given up cancelling the repair but now when i return to the setup page i see the screen which says "setup is restarting...." then after that all i get is a black screen with the cursor in the middle and nothing else.

ive tried to go through the repair process from the beginning but it does not appear on the list, i can only perform a complete install which i do not want to do as i will loose all existing data.

can anyone tell me how i can resume the repair without having to do a clean install

thanks
