is this a fair deal

At the moment I am running a 5870 and have been considering an upgrade come tax return time in about 3 weeks. A friend who runs an IT buisness offered me 2 6870's specificly the Gigabyte GV-R687OC-1GD edition for $320 if I give him my 5870 as a trade in. Just wondering if you guys think this is a fair deal and should I get it

That sounds fair, I mean the 6870's are $200 each new. I wouldn't be trusting that PSU with dual GPU's though. The only good PSU's coolermaster put out are the real power / silent m series. I'd just buy a more powerful single GPU for $320, perhaps a 6950 or GTX 570, which will give you good performance. I don't like dual gpu setups for the fact that some games won't support it and you'll less than good performance with two lesser cards. I wouldn't trust that PSU with a GTX 570 or 6950 either though :o

perhaps ill look into a single card setup. either that or just see if I can pick up another 5870 cheap.

3-5 years ago, maybe. More recently, just about every game will be handling multi-GPU setups, and the scaling is near 100%.

I would take the 2 6870's. Even though they are drawing more power and creating more heat, it is going to destroy a 6950, 6970, 570, 580, even a 5970
