Is this a good deal?

If you have a Gamestop near you, they're selling the exact same thing refurbished for $250. If you purchase the system from eBay and it works, you'd be saving yourself about $50. Unfortunately, there are no returns on eBay but considering that the seller has 107 feedback, he might let you return it if it happens to break. It's really up to you... either save $50 through eBay, or you can go to Gamestop for a more reliable source. If it matters to you, the Gamestop system is not backwards compatible with PS2 games, but the system on eBay is unclear. If the system on eBay is backwards compatible, the closest Gamestop equivalent may be $270 for 80 Gb. In that case, I'd get eBay, unless you want the extra memory for demos or videos.

That ebay 40gb PS3 is not backwards compatible, it also doesnt have the front card readers either, if that matters of course. it's a good price, but for $250 from gamestop, you're better getting a new slim version IMHO.

You're not going to find a slim version at Gamestop for $250. Their cheapest slim version is $300 for 120 Gb. If both the $250 at Gamestop and $200 on eBay are exactly the same (with same memory, both not backwards compatible, etc.) then I'd probably trust Gamestop more. If the system doesn't work, you can always just get a ride to the nearest Gamestop to replace it. If the one on eBay doesn't work, that's just lost money. By the way, here's the link for the PS3 on GameStop:
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=68183

Unfortunately, when I click on the link for the 160, the page tells me it is a bad url. Maybe it's just something on my end. Anyway, if the $200 PS3 on eBay just fits your budget and you don't mind any possible scratches or taking the risk of getting a defective system, then that's probably your best option right now for the price. Until the holidays, the price of a PS3 probably won't go any lower. If you don't want to wait, then eBay is probably your best option. That's especially true if you don't need the hard drive for downloading demos, movies, games, or anything else.

Well, the hard drive would store all of the demos, videos, and games you download. If all you're going to do is watch movies or play games from a disk, you don't need to worry. Each game you have will take up space on the hard drive. They can range from about 300 Mb to over 4 Gb. For example, Resistance 2 takes up only about 350 Mb. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots takes up about 4.6 Gb. Assuming that each game takes up about 4 Gb (which they usually don't, it's more like between 1 or 2 Gb. I think Metal Gear is just an exception) you're good for at least 10 games, probably between 20 to 30. This also means you'd be able to hold less demos and videos over time. However, if you're gonna be a moderate gamer who will be fine with keeping only a few demos at a time, you'll be fine. I personally have the 120 Gb version and am a pack rat when it comes to demos. I have approximately 30 demos and videos and have only about 30 Gb left. However, if you ever run out of memory, I believe that you can swap out the PS3 hard drive for an equivalent laptop hard drive. I've only heard about it and don't know the specifics, but you can probably google it if you'll ever need to.

I say yes it is however I would look online at other PS3's just to be safe and look at their abilities carefully.

Good luck with any PS3's, others you get ;) ; )
