Is this a good Graphics Card for my needs?

I was told by someone on this forum to get a Graphics Card with 1GB memory, and DDR5, this has 1GB memory, however it says "GDDR5"
I haven't the foggiest idea what either of these mean, but as long as it's good, i don't really care.

i have Vista, a dual processor of 2GHz each, RAM speed is 2GB, under 'Display Adapters' in the Device Manager, it says something about a 'chipset family' if that means anything significant. And finally, the is 32-bit something. Sorry, i can't remember the full name of that.

All i want the Graphics Card for is gaming. My computer is so sh!t, for lack of a better word, that i have just decided to go all-out and upgrade my PC. I am SO SICK of playing a game that plays slowly and jumps every few seconds.
It's so frustrating!!

Actually, more importantly, will this work on my PC?
And if i buy this new, will i be able to install it myself? Or is it more of a 'send it to a PC shop' job?

I mentioned something about a 'Chipset Family' above. Is this okay?
I read somewhere else that 'chipsets' cannot be removed or upgraded with a better graphics card.

So, anyway, is this good for gaming? will i need to upgrade my RAM or anything? it is 2GB.
It seems quite good, the link i provided has very good ratings from customers, and one review said it is one of the best graphics cards available for this price.

But i need to make sure. It is perfect for my budget. £95 is perfect.
But still, it's a lot of money to spend on something your not certain about.

THANKS

hey hosick, you should have just kept this in your original post, what is your maximum budget £100 ? gddr5 is just same i just didnt put in the g

You're right, i'm sorry about that. I just don't like having so much different information on the one thread.

And i might have sounded a bit rude when i said about the gddr5 thing, but i honestly haven't a clue what that means. I didn't know that they were the same thing!

Yeah, my maximum would have to be about £100, so this is perfect.

I don't know much, if anything, about graphics cards, so my plan was basically to come here, find out basic info about what a good GC should be, then find the dearest card, within reason, based on that info!
Dear = good in my view!!

So do you know if this is okay for me?
I only need it to play games, which sounds a bit sad, but anything is better than my current PC.

yes it is a good card for under £100, had a look at a few others in that area, their are some other dual cards but they only seem to support direct x 10, then card you have picked is prob the best of the bunch between £90 and £100, it has dual output but it supports direct x 11 so dont think you would go far wrong with that, what is the rest of the spec of your machine ?

I honestly don't know. And i wouldn't know what was important.
I feel almost stupid on this forum. I know nothing about computers.

If you tell me what you need to know, i can try and find it.
I'm also not certain what DirectX is either. By that, do you mean i need DirectX11 to run this Graphics Card, or it is supplied with DirectX11?

I apologise for my stupidity!

no no lol, thats to pay for support you dont need below that, you will see two links one says download from filehippo the other piriform, click either of these better with piriform though.

Wait, sorry.

Can we continue this tomorrow?
I'm sorry, i just remembered that it's my PC i want upgraded, i'm currently on my laptop.
I just don't have the time to continue this on my PC tonight.

It's good that you're from Scotland, i'll be home at around 4pm tomorrow.
I hope you can help me with this further, you are very helpful!
Thank you for the link to Speccy. I downloaded it without thinking onto my laptop, and it works really fast. I found the free links as well.

Thanks for your help so far.
I will post my PC specs tomorrow.

This is an OEM computer right? You'll need a decent PSU. Judging by the processor, this PC is a few years old. What make and model is it?

oh no! more questions!!
It's from 2007, i honestly wouldn't think that was bad, but it must have been awful for it's time.
I don't know what an OEM or PSU is.
I just checked, it's an Acer Aspire M1640.
And it's OS is Vista.

Also, it says on a sticker on the front of the computer 'nVidia GeForce 7050' i haven't seen that on the Device Manager or on Speccy, but it has a picture of a monitor above it. You would know better than i would what that means.

it will be an oem if its factory built by acer, afraid you processor is quite slow hosick at 2.0ghz you might struggle with some games no matter what graphics card you get

is upgrading the cpu something you would want to do

I honestly don't mind.
If you tell me for certain that that £95 graphics card is good, then i will go all out and get a CPU as well.
I will definitely get one as soon as i can if you could recommend one for me.
I have seen your profile and you seem to be the right guy to ask about this!
I honestly know less about CPU's than about graphics cards, so any help will be really appreciated.

If your recommendation is not too dear then i will go for it.
I don't really want to if it's going to be another 100 quid, because any more than that and i may as well buy a new computer.

Anyway, i'm relying on you to tell me what to buy!
All i want is to be able to play games with decent quality, but i don't want something that's going to cost me twice as much as i actually need, when a simpler model will do.
What i really mean is, it's for PC games, i will most likely rarely play them, but when i do, i want it to be good. If you understand me? - it's hard to explain... i am not looking for something that will still be brilliant in 5 years and will play the best games at the top settings.

I think i've told you everything i can about my PC, so i'll let you see what you can find.
I am sorry for all this, i know you do have your own interests, a job, a life besides being charitable, but i really appreciate what you're doing.

Another thing; i take it i would be best to leave this in to be fitted? - the CPU?
I thought the graphics card would be easy enough to fit myself, but a CPU...?
