Ok at the moment I have a Biostar P4VTB ver.1.1 S478 M/B. It houses a gig of Elixir brand DDR3200, and a 2.7Ghz Celeron 128 L2/ 800Mhz FSB. I have a pny Geforce6800 GT 256 MB w/ OCing ability. Minus the processor I think its an ok system I play my games well. I decided to buy a new CPU the other day and this what crossed my mind.

I was looking at a 3.0Ghz Northwood 512/ 800, and a 2.8... my board only goes to 3.2 support. I can OC either one to that speed most likely with the Zalman cnp9500 right? So would it be better to just buy the 2.8 Northwood or the 3.0 and push it to say ~3.5Ghz not sure if the MB can take it.

So pls give all and any feedback thank you

If its possible, you should really make the switch to AMD for optimal gaming.

but if you cant, I would get the 3.0 Northwood and see how far you can push it.

ya i agree aswell go amd the only expense would be ur mobo change as for the prossesor it might be the same if not cheaper for the performence u want

What the question actually asked

Now for the life of me, I can’t see where he asked for advice on an entire new system. Actually am pretty sure it looks like he just wants to replace the CPU on his current computer.

Let me give you guys a hint, it not a good thing to be a fanboy so please try not to go out of your way to show all of us just how much of a AMD fanboy you are.

Most of us answered his question, but we also offered our suggestion. Now intstead of complaining, wheres your response?

from his orginal post

I think its an ok system I play my games well.

Maybe I misunderstood but I took that to mean that he happy currently with how it plays his games.

Spending $300 on a graphic card seems a bit stupid if the game he playing doesn’t need it or maybe he have no interest in playing games with all the fancy settings. That is problem; some people make suggestions about spending other people money without even getting all the information first.

He needs to tell me what his goal is with this upgrade before I can make a recommendation. If it for a game then what game? Or is it for general use? Or some type of office application? Etc.

Cant recommends what upgrade he should do without knowing the goal behind the upgrade.

It seems that there certain people around here, assumes that everyone goal is to play the newest games with HDR on highest resolution and willing to pay for it.

WOW!!

Anyways I am using my PC for just about everything that I can use it for. The upgrade is in part of wanting better performance while playing City of Villains. I dont have money for a whole new system and I am buying a new one tax season ne way. So I just want a new CPU for the next 7 months till then. I do plan on geting an AMD but we will need to see benchmarks next year before I choose.

I went along and got the 2.8G Northwood in spite of the 3.0 suggestion, thank you but I needed a little extra cash for a DVI cable. I purchased an aftermarket CPU fan from tigerdirect rated for a 3.6 so cooling should be adiquate to push the 2.8 a bit further.

Thanks for all the responses please tell me what you think about the choice I made.
