Board Elitegroup Nforce 4-A939.
since my old pc is blown p cuz of a new cooler failure. im planning o buy a new pc.
ive seen thi mobo with 1024mb RAM(KRETON DDR-400 Dal channel) + Thermaltake TR2 M6 cooler and a AMD 3000+ winchester CPU (S-939)
for 300 euries.

would that be a good buy?
i mean,. it has a pci-E slot (and a 8x Agp) and nforce 4 chipset.

I would avoid anything by Elitegroup/ECS/PC Chips. An MSI K8N Neo is probably the way to go

I have 3 ecs pc's here, and never had any troubl with one..
wy i should avoid them, i mean are here known bugs or something like that?

and i looked o the MSI board. it costs the same, but then i would only have 512 mb RAM. so the complete se would co me 50 eries more than the ecs board set.

yeah i used to have all ECS bored untill recelty i got 2 soyo boards. Never had a problem with the ECS boards. I DID have some with the soyo though. I have no idea there rep either though too.

why would you have only 512MB of RAM? Both boards use the same RAM. It's your choice what board you want but IMO the MSI is a better board

there would b no differece between quality. reliability would also be no problem, cuz i would have 3 years warranty on both.

but more powerfll? i mean, they both have nforce 4 chipse, and the same bus speeds.
yo can overclock with both boards (at least that wat ive heard)

In my experience ECS boards have poor reliablity/quality, but if you like them then by all means buy one. You asked what we thought and I told you, it doesn't mean you have to listen to me. :)

I agree with Cromewell you dont have to listen to us but I have also had problems with ECS boards. I mainly stick with MSI, Gigabyte, or Asus when i'm building a comp for someone.

He wants a S939 board so it'd be the Neo2/4 ;)

Abit, all about the Abit
Is this fanboyism or is there reasoning behind it? :)

Much lower quality and smaller featureset :)

I ment for the same ammount of money.
But you said
and i looked o the MSI board. it costs the same

but can you tell me why the msi i a better board?
Well if you're a basic user and are lookin on say a 6month scale, it wont matter. For power users, the MSI board has a lot more features and is a world more robust

there would b no differece between quality
Hehe that was open minded? ;)

reliability would also be no problem, cuz i would have 3 years warranty on both.
having a warranty doesnt mean its more reliable.

but more powerfll? i mean, they both have nforce 4 chipse, and the same bus speeds.
you can take Porsche tires and put them on a Ford Focus.....

yo can overclock with both boards (at least that wat ive heard)
Yes but comparing an overclocked MSI board to an overclocked ECS board is like comparing an apple tree to an apple

But you said

i know.. but then i would only have 512Mb of Ram :( (please tell me.. will i be able to play games like CS:s Pacific Fighters and doom 3 good on this pc, or do i have to buy another 512 mb of ram then.)

well.. i can say hat MSI is robust.. i mean.. my old mobo survived 4 years of torture by my cousin.. (MI k7t LE)

pfff... poshe doesnt make its own tyres.. so you cant ay it are porshe tyres.. it could also be focus tyres on a porshe :P

but the 3000+ wincheser is a good prosessor?

but ie seen one problem with the MSI board.. it hasn got a pci-e slot :(
but ive found a MSI k8n sli neo4 with a 3200+ winchester and cooler for 300 euries. but then i have to buy ram wih i so it woul cost at least 350 :(

Why would you have to buy an extra 512MB or ram? Seems to be an extra requirement you threw in there (i.e.., if and only if i buy a nonECS board i have to buy more RAM)

(please tell me.. will i be able to play games like CS:s Pacific Fighters and doom 3 good on this pc, or do i have to buy another 512 mb of ram then.)
Doom3 doesnt care whether you have 512MB or 2GB. (ok it does but the difference is like 2fps)

pfff... poshe doesnt make its own tyres.. so you cant ay it are porshe tyres.. it could also be focus tyres on a porshe
You seem to miss the point. Just because they have a common feature doesnt mean that they are identical in every [major] respect. I guess a better example would be ammunition ... i can give you a 7.62 round ... now whether you shove that into a M24 or an AWP-SP makes a world of difference. (i also didnt say Porsche made tires so my original point still stands)

but the 3000+ wincheser is a good prosessor?
good is subjective but i can tenatively say yes

i was just makin fun about the tyres.. i did get your point.. ;)

its just.. i had a nice pc (ok.. not the fastest, but it did is job..). and now it blown cuz of a cpu nw fan braking. (havnt heard anything anymore from coolermaster..) and now i need new on cuz i cant do anythin (unfotunately i dont have the money yet :( )

ow and about te ram question. Pacific fighters (a combat flight sim) has a minimum requirement of 512 mb of ram. and 1024 recommended so thats why i asked.

Do what you wish with your money but I can assure you of a few things:
  • Small computer stores (the ones u need to be careful with), sell their budget systems with ECS boards
  • Big fancy OEMs (Dell, Compaq) etc -- ones that DONT want to have to deal with tech support etc, pack their systems with ASUS/MSI based boards
  • If you goto power user forums and ask around, nobody will reccomend an ECS board (unless there is a specific reason etc) ... sure, 30% of the reccomendtions may be fanboysim but there is a good chunk of truth it it :)

What is your budget for a new board

well.. i was thinking about 300 euries (because i have a suply, fx card, case, HD and dvd drives.. i only need a mobo/posessor/ram bundle) maybe a bit over it.

the boad should hav a pci exspress slot. and perfect wold be sli ^_^
since i have a ide harddisc it would be nice if it has a ide connector.
well. i have a 350W power suply. but i think ill have to replace that one aswell.
