Is this a good power supply

Enermax Galaxy 1000w just upgrade to this from an ace 480w was it a worthwhile upgrade

I'd say don't stress it by putting a load of 80% (800w) or more..

You don't need 1000 watts for that. A decent 600 watts would have sufficed.

Enermax is actually supposed to be a good PSU company. When I first started here they were recommended on occasion. They don't have much market share anymore though. Corsair has been dominating the builder's market with the CX series in the past couple years it seems like.

Yes it would be fine. It doesn't matter if you have too much, just a waste of money if it's more expensive than a unit with less watts. However in your case it sounds like you can get a good deal on the 1000w unit.

Carboot sale saw it and was like how much guy said £10 so I snapped it up tested it and all works fine so good buy?

Overkill but other than that yeah I guess. Its got 5 - 12 volt rails each with 17 amps.

its an awesome power supply. even jonnyguru gave it a good review, that's how you can tell. however, that review was done in 2006 and its likely less efficient than todays power supplies. also, you never know how old it is, depending on when they discontinued the product. still a steal for that price

Hey if it works, then all is good. Carboot sale could indicate it having been stolen but then again it could be someone that needs money bad. For that price and if not stolen, you got a steal
