I'm considering buying a second-hand PC from a guy, who tells me this...

He is asking £200 for the box, without HDD, and £12 for the combo drive.

Good price? Should I take it? What would a decent size HDD cost me?

well you should ask him a few questions. like, what motherboard is it? what ram is it? what speed is the ram? what graphics card is it? whats the amapge on the 12v rail for the PSU?

all these questions, and some people will come up with more no doubt, need to be answered before anyone can tell you if its a good deal or not.

and you could pick up a 160GB hard drive for about £50 on www.ebuyer.com

I put my money on that being a completly BS statement.

I would not even think about buying the computer till you find out exactly what you getting.
 
and you dont need to know anything about the psu, just ask him who makes it cause i've always usedstock psu's and havent run into a problem.

If anyone out there is lurking, and reading this, I'd really appreciate your input on wether or not the gear is worth the price or not...

ALSO, would this "I think it is DVR -R,CD RW-CD -R 48x48x10" be able to play most DVDs, etc. as I'm not sure what the differences between +/- etc. are.

Yes, I know about Google, but I'm not from the UK, so I need to know what a good local price is, and quickly too.

Hmmm

I think it's quite expensive actually, for a used system. The processor is so-so and the graphics card, well expect nothing major. Try talkng him into giving you a discount.

I too think that I shall give it a miss, even though PC bits are a lot more expensive back home...
