Is this a power supply probelm or something else

Hey everyone, I've been working on this computer for a while and I finally get everything working so it comes time to install windows xp. Everything is going well until the begin install stage starts. At this step the computer would suddenly turn off. Sometimes it would go longer than others but usually it would turn off once that stage started. So I installed windows on the hard drive in a different PC to see if the hard drive was ok and it worked. So I put the hard drive back in the original PC and it worked I ran it for a bit and all seemed fine. So I gave the computer back to my girlfriends brother and it was working fine for a day until it randomly shut off... so he rebooted and and randomly shut off again 20min later. I would assume it to be a power supply issue but because I was having troubles installing windows I don't know if I should look else where also.
The specs of this computer are
amd AM2 5200+
asus m2n32 sli deluxe wifi(I just got this back from asus from RMA)
xfx 8600gt xxx
seagate barracuda hard drive
kingston memory ddr2 1.8 volts(I haven't tried manually configuring this voltage yet, but its my old motherboard and never had problems with memory configuration)
450 watt antec power supply that came with the case (its 3-5 years old I think)

Did you take a look at the CPU cooler when you had it apart? It could be overheating and shutting it's self down. It also could be the power supply like you say. Do you have a spare you could try?
 
Similar thing happened to me when I forgot to connect the CPU fan. I worked up past the BIOS screen, and up to installing programs.
 
I Saw that the cpu fan was working but i didn't take note of the temps ... I don't have the computer in my possession any more so I'll have to take a look at it some other time ..thanks for the responses.
 
So there was progress with the computer. I guess ever since his girl friend stopped playing a game on facebook (restaurant city) the computer hasn't crashed since. I guess he found a post somewhere on the net that shockwave used to play some online was causing a computer to crash because it was conflicting with the motherboard. Does that make sense to any one and if it does would a bios update fix that.
