333MHZ FSB dosent sound so good neither does 256mb ram. The ram is upgradeable. Is this an emachines? I had one with a xp 2200 and it was very fast, i did put a gig of ram tho.

Price seems reasonable to me, but I do live in the UK so prices are higher.

Also, the system will be fine for just browsing the internet.

It's first computer for my friend, LOL

He only wants it for surfing the net, to look for cars and parts online.
Maybe chat a little. Just wanna make sure the comp won't b slow when surfing.

I'm running a 350mhz 6 year old iMac, with 384mb of RAM.
I can run MSN, internet browser, and iTunes at the same time...
And you can pick up an iMac for like nothing these days...

Plus they look great :D

yes yes that computer will run those programs fine, if there he will be using several programs at onc though, an additional 256 mb of ram will be the go. that is not a bad computer for the price if it is all new and warranty

Um...you do know the Athlon 64's technically run at 200MHz FSB?
But it has HTT, so 1000Mhz Bus

That computer looks fine, but i seriously would upgrade to 512MB if you want to have a few apps open at once.

That computer should be fine to run internet browsers and some applications such as MS office.
Don't expect to play some recent video games too well on it though

No No, lol, no games, unless I can convince him to play cs with me :)

This comp will b stricly for internet only

Um...you do know the Athlon 64's technically run at 200MHz FSB?
Or technically they dont cuz they're HyperTransport+XBar based rather than FSB based ;)

As for the system, that's a decent amount of stuff for the price because getting a copy of Windows will kill any attempt at building your own.

Then you'll be fine even with 256MB ... you can have multiple windows open plenty with 256MB ... just so long as they are just new instances of the same app (i.e., multiple browser windows), if you start increasing the app count, then you might consider the upgrade ... of course if you're connecting to 56K then dont bother unless you notice the performance being not up to par simply because there's so much delay with 56K anyways

When referring to the post screen of 200mhz seen on dual channel Socket A and newer boards multiple that by 2 to equal DDR400 on a 400mfz fsb. The 333mhz fsb will be seen as 166mhz at post time for the same reason. For browsing the web with only 256mb even on dialup doesn't pose any problems. Just go back a few years to 32mb or 66mb on 14.4K. That was the slow boat.

The price for older model hardwares to make the $250- price is reasonable when the latest video card alone can run twice as much. The only problem with having only 256mb of ram would be seen when running multiple applications not even including gaming where the system would bog down.

Athlon64s are hypertransport based ... they have a core clock of 200 (for the time being) and the net bus speed is determined by multiplying by th CORE/HT multiplier. Using default clocks and multipliers we have 200x4=800Mz or 200x5=1000. Since we can enable 16bit transfers across the hypertransport we can then multiply by 2 to get the more familiar 1600/2000 values :)

Because the board's chipset interface used to be called fsb(front side bus), we tend to call the hypertransport an fsb replacement, which is misleading. The A64 memory controller takes over for what the fsb used to do namely communicating with memory with HyperTransport replacing the rest of what the fsb used to do in communicating with everything else. The memory controller is 64 bits wide just like the fsb was, but now it has separate paths for upstream and downstream so both can occur simulataneously. The speed of these paths are 200mhz DDR meaning a rate of 400mhz in each direction.

The hypertransport speed is 800mhz in each direction which is why amd says it is 1600mhz. But it is only a 16bit wide path. Its also not communicating with memory which is what most of us think of when we think of an fsb. To call hypertransport a 1600mhz fsb is misleading in that it is only 16bits wide, and is not even leading to the memory.
