yes. like the AMD x2 3800+ or 4200+. soon more games and other application will utilise(sp?) the dual processors so your "future proof" somewhat.

I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. As of now, both games I'm anticipating don't support dual core tech, so it's useless.

I have Battle for Middle Earth II already pre-ordered, and I've been AWAITING Vanguard: Saga of Heroes for a few years already.

I'm not much of a FPS as I am an MMORPG'er and RTS player.

Edit: Thinking about the x2, the 4800 is $650 atm, and that's just too much for me. I can't afford another $300, but the 4000+ will be able to do anything the 4800 could do and more, atleast for now.

Looks pretty good, here are a couple of suggestions:
1. For another $10, you can get the superior Radeon X1900XT
2. At a similar price to that mobo is the Asus A8R-MVP. A better mobo, IMO, and definitely better if you get the X1900XT
3. While the 4000+ is great for single threaded games/apps, a more future proof chip would be the X2 3800+ or X2 4200+

I detest ATI. As for the dual-core, I will cross that bridge when I get to it, but as for now, it's not in my best interest.

Change the HDD. It is ATA100 which is pretty slow. Get a SATA/SATA2 drive with 16mb of cache.
I would go with an ATI x1900xt graphics card if I were you. Much better performance for nearly the same price.
