Yes it will still work but make sure that your motherboard says it will work C2D so it has the correct voltages.
 
The process which the CPU is made shouldn't make the difference if it works. It's the actual CPU itself that's the deciding factor. If I had to guess, I'd say it wouldn't work, just as Athlon X2's wouldn't work in most the earlier HP/Compaq's.

The motherboard in that system is apparently an Asus PTGD1-LA. I'll post if I find anything else, or you can start your own research.

I'm afraid not. 915P doesn't support Dual Core CPUs. You'd be best to upgrade your motherboard as well to get a better CPU.

Dude...are you serious? He has a Socket T board. So what do you do? You recommend an AMD processor.

And why a zeon? He doesn't want a zeon. How about a nice 65nm C2D.

As ceewi said, your motherboard will not support 65nm CPUs. It has nothing to do with the process, but the fact that the Core 2 Duo is the only 65nm CPU for desktop computers, and it requires a 965 or 975 chipset.

Whoops, forgot the Pentium Ds :o I was focused on C2D. But the 6xx series are 90nm, at least according to Tom's Hardware....but they did make an Extreme Edition that was 65nm. That would work on his motherboard, as would any of the Pentium D processors.

Some of the 6xx series are 65nm, yet some are still 90nm.
 
If you want C2D support specifically look for it on the manufacturers website. Generally any 945 and newer based board can support C2D, it just needs VRM11.

ok, now I'm confused. will a 65nm Pentium D (like the one I posted a link to) work with my mobo? Or will it have to be a 90nm CPU? You said that Pentium D's will work, so does that include the one I posted?

If it can't be 65nm, will this one work?

No, you need a single core CPU with the board you have, it is 915P based so Pentium Ds will not work.
 
Craaaaap. Well, I'll hold off on buying a new CPU then, maybe in a year or two's times I'll build a comp from scratch. thanks for your help anyways:)
