Is this hot?

depends. your processor sounds very dodgy, -
"AMD PRO2700A+ Athlon 1.35GHZ New technology (acts like 2.7 GHZ)"

could be that your mobo is reading the temperatures wrong. get a digital thermometer and check, or upgrade bios. it could be also that ths hsf is not positioned properly.

The heatsink is correctly inserted. The CPU is apparantly "welded". The box says PRO2700A+. PC Wizard 2005 says it's 64C. And there is no BIOS EZ Flash build-in

AMDs are usually the hot chips. Compared to the idle temps of some of the Prescotts ive seen 50C idle is quite warm. Even me at 28-32C idle is warm. Furthermore you cant compare between processor families (well not in this case)

32C is warm? Am I missing something?

Prescotts? You are kidding me right? Most prescotts run hotter than hell on default heatsinks...
Those were Socket478 chips. The Socket775 ones run cool. If you think Prescott(S478s) were hot, dont forget the AthlonXPs

Oh, I see... sounds okay to me, 30c sounds really really low for a temp though, i don't see how that's high.

It isnt that high ... i'm just picky :D (do realize that when i ratchet the CPU up, it'll be 40-45 with the fan on max, 50-55 with fan on min) both of which is plenty safe but higher than i personally enjoy. I can get the CPU down to ~20C understress but that doesnt really count as a "normal" condition as I run my room at -12ºC
