Hi:

Is it legal to build a wireless network card whose MAC address is dynamic?

In this hypothetical card, the MAC address is not burned-in. Instead, the MAC is dynamic in that it is freshly-generated each time the card is switched on. When the card if offed, the MAC address disappears and when it is switched on again, a brand new MAC address is generated with absolutely no trace of the previous MAC.

Is this legal?

I'm not sure about the legality of it, but I don't think it would be illegal. There are many programs out there that allow you to change your mac address, sometimes even the Ethernet drivers will have the ability build in.

Currently, MAC addresses aren't regulated by any legal entity, and there is no law against MAC spoofing, so this would be perfectly legal.

Not that this really answers your question or anything, but I've seen you ask multiple questions about this. What are you needing this so badly for? Just being curious..

I believe a dynamic MAC address will provide more security and privacy for the user.

Yes. There are softwares which can do that. However, the burned-in MAC address still remains the same.

The MAC address is stored as an EEPROM. I would be nice if it were stored in Twin-Transistor RAM, that way it would be completely lost then the power is offed and completely new MAC could be generated after oning the machine.
