Is this normal?

I was running Folding@Home as a test - and CPU load was at 80% for about...7 minutes. When I checked the temperature it was at 55C. I only use the stock cooling, but still...is that normal?

For your CPU that does seem high. You may want to look into buying a new HSF. Zalman makes some of the best.

you sure, i bought zalman hsf, for about $50 for my cpu,
and yet my temp is like 65~70 when doing something serious...
i think its bad, and dangerous, but what can i do to save it?
or lower the temps od my cpu

If you applied too much thermal pasted, that can actually insulate the processor die and cause it to overheat. Plus there are other factors, like air flow and what not. My processor with stock cooling and the stock cooling pad(that pink crap) stays around 35*C all the time...

Usally aftermarket coolers aren't that much better, if any than stock ones. The only real difference is usally the amount of noise they produce.

You have to move more air. Consider a more powerful case exhaust fan or two, or you may have to do what I did: direct ducting of room air to the CPU fan. 65-70 deg. is too high. Make sure the right amount of thermal paste is in place and that your heatsink is sitting properly on top the CPU.
Even running Folding@Home (100% CPU load) in a humid 32°C room, my CPU doesn't go over 47°C.

The problem is down to the case itself. It is not designed for great airflow. As all the pics on the internet are of the front, so I don't know how many fans you have at the back.

Either buy some decent fans, as OvenMaster said, and leave the side (partly) off.

Or, buy a new case which is designed for good airflow. So, grills at both back and front (a side grill isn't really necessary).

The second option will provide better temperatures, but will cost more.

Im actually looking at a thermaltake tsunami case. I only have the one exaust fan at the back of my case - so...=/ I no not to expect much, but my CPU is pretty high.

Ya that isn't very good for your cpu especially only at 80%, a thermaltake tsunami is a nice case and would be a big improvement over your current case.
