Okay, so I'm trying to buy this Dell Optiplex 960 ( Intell Core 2 Quad CPU Q9400 2.66ghz 2GB no HD) tower from eBay for $11
I assume "no HD" means no hard drive.

So... I want to...
-Buy this tower as is ( $11 )
-Buy 1tb HDD ( $70 ) & 32gb SSD ( $50 )... ($120)
-Buy enough sticks of RAM to get it to a 4gb of ram ( $40 )
-Buy either Win7or Win8 64bit (haven't decided) and install it on the SSDrive bc I've herd it would get me some extra speed. ( $100 )

I have no computer at the moment, so I really need something sense I just started school.

Could anything else be wrong with the desktop?
So all this for $271?
Is this a good idea or should I drop it? And why?

It is a good deal but this dell for so little money seems fishy... Also you're going to need a video card, and for $40 you can easily get 8gb of ddr2 ram.

I agree with springwater that spec for that price seems crazy the cpu alone is worth way more than that.

It is common when you see the no hd thing to fall for the old removed for data privacy, it could be the hd has been removed to cover the fact a major component like motherboard or cpu is faulty.

Thanks for the replys!
Hmm... Am I aloud to post the eBay link on here, maybe you guys could take a look at it..

I'm using my phone to post this, and the link I get is for the Mobil app so idk of it will work...

Seems like a good deal on used corporate hardware. The only thing I worry about with older systems like these are the older hardware. They work fine some tasks, web browsing, lite gaming.

I purchased three HP DC 1100's for $20 each from a local University, only difference is they had Linux on the HDD's and I was able to hand pick each one from hundreds of them.

I sold two of them for $100 each, and still have one which my mother uses to play those $9.99 walmart games on.

The thing that bugs me the most about systems like these are the motherboards. It's hard to find replacements for older systems like these. Generally can find some on ebay but also check out the seller before placing any bids. I've seen people get warped $200 motherboards that were DOA. Good thing paypal has buyer/seller protection. :)

Thanks for the replys guys, I apreciate it... I guess I will roll the dice on it and hopefully it works out like I planned..
