About two months ago I lost my sound and can't get it back. Any advice would truly be appriciated.
MY SYSTEM:
Mobo - ASUS P4B533-E
CPU - Intel P4 3.06 Ghz
Sound Card - BlueGears HDA Digital X-Mystique 7.1 Gold Sound Card
Speakers - Altek Lansing 4.1
OS - Windows XP Media Center 2003
I've probably done a complete re-installation of the OS three times now trying to solve this with a fresh environment.
1st attempt was with the original OS install that was working and providing sound for several years. I removed the Mystique sound card and re-installed an older sound card (Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer) and re-installed the original installation CD and drivers. It still wouldn't work. So I removed all sound cards from the PCI slots and redid my BIOS to re-enable the on board Audio Chip and try that. Still no sound. Then came my first complete OS re-installation trying to eliminate anything with the OS. Then proceeded to re-install the sound cards again one at a time making sure to try different PCI slots. Still couldn't get either sound card or the on-board chip to provide sound. Then I ordered new speakers from Amazon.com (Logitech X-140 2.0) speakers. I did another complete re-installation of the OS and tried both cards again to no avail and the on-board chip still couldn't give me sound. I can't seem to get it in my head that the mobo must be at fault. It would seem to me that either using a PCI sound card or the on-board audio chip could get around any problem with the mobo.
Is it possible that something is wrong with the mobo that would prevent sound from both the Chip and the PCI audio cards?
Is there any test software that could point to the problem? It'll probably point to me.
