hello everybody, im considering buying net book [hp mini 110 win7] and i was wondering if in future i wanted to upgrade the CPU from "Intel(R) Atom(TM) Processor N455 (1.66GHz, 512KB L2)"to a dual cored CPU how much would it cost and what CPU would i put in it??
i think i heard somewhere that the CPU is soldered to the mother bored but im not sure about that??

cheers:good:

Yeah, the Atom processors are usually soldered to the mobo. A netbook would have very poor cooling for a dual core.

Some newer netbooks have low end dual-cores in them already if you spend a bit more.

Generally only higher end laptops have upgradeable parts in them. High end a net book is not. If you're looking for a little more oomph, then get a small laptop, like a 12" or 13". They usually come with huge improvements in regards to performance, while taking only minimal hits to portability. I think I'd also recommend against HP in general. Toshiba, ASUS and Gigabyte just to name a few use much higher quality parts in their laptops, while HP uses cheaper and therefor less reliable parts. Having said that though, it ultimately comes down to the design you like best. It doesn't matter much if the laptop has the best components in all the land if you hate using the keyboard/touchpad. You should still avoid brands like HP and Acer though unless you're really smitten with them haha.

I would avoid netbooks. Spend the extra $125 and get a laptop with a dual-core processor. The price is too high on most netbooks for what parts they have when compared to a laptop.

Interesting. And I thought that motherboard in my computer built by HP said Asus..oh, it does. Haha darn it! The label must be a fraud. Oh, that hard drive, states Western Digital. CD drive-LiteOn. Dude, these aren't low quality parts in my HP.

@nathan32111, HP uses the same, if not better (depending on price) parts. HP isn't one of the biggest companies on earth that assembles computers for fancy. They produce much more than Asus or Gigabyte alone, thus higher failure rates are to be expected, even though they use quality Asus parts. BBB rating for HP is A+. Though HP does have some bloatware, nothing some clicking won't be rid of.

Find a computer that suits YOU. Just don't be bias in your decision. You may miss out on a good deal. As voyager said, get a lower end notebook with a dual core. As a consumer, you're going to have to spend more to get more when it come to netbooks.

Little bit hostile don't you think? I'm just saying in my experience, which is admittedly limited to desktops (Although I have no reason to believe they would construct their laptops any differently) has been very poor. I've seen mostly mother board and power supply issues, with a case of bad ram as well. This is across only a handful (8 maybe? Some older, some new) of HP machines of people I know personally. Yes, your HP does have reputable brand name parts in it, but its the only one I've seen as such. Maybe yours is just a higher end model? The only thing I've consistently seen as quality in HP's is that they do seem to really like WD.

Sorry, bad day yesterday. But no, it wasn't high end at all lol I bought it before I was an experienced tech. For me, HP have lasted a long time. I had a 10 year old one finally give up last year. I have two more that are over 5 years old. All 3 had Asus mobos. So to me, I don't understand the hatred generated in forums toward HP. They don't like to be tinkered with, as HP does install anti piracy software that keep from swapping out HDD, and mobos, but a simple del key press in cmd prompt will prevent that from happening ;)

Thanks and its ok, but you should probably edit your posts so they're a little less offensive. I've already done so with mine regarding the upgrade debacle. You seem to have generated yourself a very poor reputation very quickly here, so trying to rub that out would be a good idea and things can be running smoothly again in no time.

My parents own a 8-9 year old sell-and-run that has no business running, but that machine alone was the source of both memory and mobo issues in two separate incidences. Buying any OEM machine is kind of hit and miss, because no matter what way you look at it, they're trying to make money off their products. The easiest way to do that is skimp out on the quality of parts just enough that it runs without blowing up. I've actually heard numerous people on this forum say HP is only marginally better for reliability and quality than Acer, and I'd be inclined to agree.

Who knows, maybe I'm just bitter because the computer I grew up with was a PoS, or maybe I've had a localized pocket of lemon HPs in my area. I only come here to give opinions, I'm not saying I have the final word on anything, I'm just contributing to the pile of information the OP has to weigh and consider in their decision.

Sure, I'll agree with most of that post. I may have a bad reputation; but to me, reputation isn't everything. I'm here to give the OP quality information that I deem most suitable. Or until the moderators ban me. I could say a chicken flies, but you wouldn't believe until you see it.

Hey I'm not asking you to agree with everything I say, or not to argue with me. Discussion is why the forums are here, just do so in a fairly polite and respectful manner. Having said that, welcome to the forums.
