Is This Possible?

hey i have an opteron 144, and DFI Laparty ultra d. I was wondering, will i get some good overclocking results and whats the possible overclock i can take it up to? I have a gig of PC3200 RAM. for runnign my PC, the temps are for CPU 35 degrees c and mobo is 40 degrees c.

thanks for you time and comments

It's not a bad idea, if you have at least a bit of knowledge on overclocking.

You wont get outstanding results, but you should get a decent overclock. I would start by raising the bus speed or clock speed, I wouldnt mess with voltages... yet.

if i mess with the clock speed, wont it screw with the RAM speeds? I need to know how to set a divider so the RAMS the same but the FSB is higher.

DRAM Freq?

What is your DRAM Freq set to in BIOS? If it is at 200, that puts your RAM & FSB @ 200 MHZ STOCK. If you set DRAM Freq to say 180 & FSB @ 200, the RAM will run @ 180MHZ. If you have the option of turning the "ODD DIVISOR CORRECT" set it to disable. If it is on you would be running RAM @ 180ish running 1:1(which is DRAM Freq @ 200). Then you should be able to go up in SMALL increments in FSB till ram hits 200. Download a program called A64Info beta.

******BE VERY CAREFULL with this program!!******

It lets you change settings in windows, and also includes a Memory calculator.

Other requirements for OC'ing OPTY144

You MUST have a decent power supply to OC.
Also make sure you run the timing on you RAM correctly.
You have a decent MOBO, and the Opty144's OC well(depending on steppings).
You also need better cooling. 35degrees stock is a little warm. I ran my 144 with higher voltages, and NEVER got above 35degrees. GO ZALMAN!
I can get my Opty144 to 2.8Ghz stable.

i have a thermaltalk 430 watt PSU. i play to overclock 1.8 to 2.4 maybe 2.5. I have SDRAM not DRAM. i have a GIG of RAM Too. there DDR400. I checked the overclock PSU calculator and the total watts was 379 total. I think im fine with a 430 watt PSU.

alright i found out that my stepping is Cacje 0605bpbw. i found this check this out.

CACJE from 2006 have also been doing pretty well, 2.9ghz+ on relatively low voltage and air cooling.

Thats not the stepping, thats something else. The stepping is usually a single digit number, although it can be a 2-digit number.
