AMD Athlon 64 LE-1640 2.7GHz

i know, its not the phenom, and its quite standard, but speaking on performance, with programs as well as games, is this processor still relivant in terms of being able to run games as well as play them decently, or is it just too low spec? i guess LE is short for lite edition right?

I don't see why it wouldn't be since 99% of the games don't require a quad-core.

You could probably overclock it to 3.0ghz-3.2ghz as well if you so decided too.

Also for the price could be a nice cheap upgrade for your system would help if you linked your systems specs too :)

I bought the same processor cept it was 5400+ BE edition (same clock more watts I believe) for my mothers PC overclocked to 3.2ghz and she maxes WoW and enjoys most games I install on her system.

True but if he is running a AM2 940 socket board it should be able to support a X2 chip right?

Thus upgrading to a single-core is not really worth the $$$

Id imagine

with a aftermarket cooler would be a more noticeble boost and last for a while. Quad titles should be out by next year but the upgrade is cheap and would pro-long the life he doesn't want to upgrade to a PII/I7 system.
