Is this the ram I need

Hi Cheburns, you did a good selection. But, my suggestion is 256MB of ram is too low for this configuration. you need to increase your Ram speed to 1+1. 1GB for Primary slot and another 1GB in secondary slot. While using like this your system speed will increases. Because am also using same configuration for my Personal Computer which you defined above. if you use 256MB of Ram than cache will get only 128MB. So, automatically your work machine will reduces the processing speed. For better performance increase your Ram speed to 1GB....

The motherboard will run all speeds of DDR but will only support the DDR 266 speed.
In other words, if you bought DDR 400, the motherboard will run it a DDR 266 speed with no problems.
Find the cheapest 1gig DDR chip (or 2), no matter the speed, and let the motherboard run it at the speed it can handle.
If you have a co-worker with the same amount/type of memory in their work station as your original 256mb of DDR 266, put your old RAM in their system.

In other words, if you bought DDR3200, the motherboard will run it a DDR2100 speed with no problems.

Your mixing up the PC and DDR specifications. The memory would be labeled the following:

DDR 266 (PC 2100)

DDR 400 (PC 3200)
