Is ubuntu installation on a new hard disk same as old

hi there,

i want to change the hard disk of my laptop. But i guess i will need to reinstall he OS once i put the new hard disk.

But i have not installed an OS on an empty hard disk.

Is installing ubuntu 12.04 (or later) in the new hard disk same as if i install ubuntu 12.04 in my current laptop without putting the new hard disk(i.e. using the same old hard disk).

If yes then i can try doing that once before i try it on a new hard disk. Could anyone help ?

thanks

Clarification:

You want to put Ubuntu on the new HDD using another computer?

If so, you could put the .ISO on a flash drive using PowerISO. Then once it's in your laptop, boot to that USB and install on the drive.

No, I dont want to install ubuntu using another computer.

I plan to take out my current HDD from my laptopn, then insert the new HDD in my laptop, and then install ubuntu in it.

Just clone your old hard drive onto the new hard drive. No need to do any reinstallation or anything.
