IS VISTA THE PROBLEM, or just my stuff...

Hey,

I bought a vista home p. computer about 1 year and a half ago, and it seemed to work good, internet was like 1.3 MB a sec and upload was 287 kB, which I was happy with, but then about 4 months ago, it all of a sudden became unbeleivably slow for a quad core processor and 3GB of memory, so i changed the Router, but it remained slow. I thenb discovered i had a trojan that may be killing it, but i got rid of the trojan and it's addons but still very slow internet. Anyways, i think you get the point.

My router:
2701HG-S Gateway (using an ethernet cable (DSL))

note: most of the bad internet speed is noticed when on WoW getting 1800 ms ping or higher, or halo 1 online which is always Dcing

any suggestions aprecciated :)
 
i would try calling your ISP. because from what you wrote it, the problem doesnt look like it is originating at your end. but to be sure. delete your cookies and such.
 
Possibly there are other malware infecting your computer. Ctrl + alt + delete and check for running processes that may be eating up your CPU or memory, also try to scan with other Antivirus software.
 
Thanks for the input guys. I would try calling my ISP, but I have a second computer which is like a 768 MB memory and single intel processor that is connected to the same router, but gets double the speed i do with my good one. By the way, I scanned with 4 other antivirus softwares to double check to make sure the trojan was gone (MCcafee, Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, Hijackthis). however, the suggestion of ctrl alt delete is what i didn't try, but i checked my usage and it said i only had 2GB of memory to use when i wasn't running anything.

I agree malware is notorious for opening up your pc to other Trojans and malware and your anti-virus software will state that had remove all infections but when you reboot the computer and can still be there and active.

I think all of those malware programs out there suck and the only way to really know that you have gotten rid of the malware is to re image (backup and erase) the computer. But before you start re imaging the computer I would check with the internet service provider and make sure that is not with them problem first.
