Im getting a new pc soon and i know Dx10 is great for pc games. Is vista worth the price? Also I heard vista has many problems is this true?

Crap...I wonder where this Thread will lead...

Anyway, there are two ways to ask that question. The first is "This is what I use my computer for... ... 'Would I be better off using XP or Vista, or Other?" The second is "Do the people who use Vista experience a lot of problems?"

As far as a simple 'worth it', you'll have people filling up this Thread in no time at all giving different opinions that, if history has taught us anything, will be rather nasty at times.

I dislike using Vista both personally and professionally (self-owned computer repair business). When I have to deal with it, I find it clunky compared to other OS's and previous versions of Windows. Thankfully, most of my Clients use XP or Others. Personally, Vista will never touch my any of my family's systems.

Well the main reason im getting vista is for dx10 im a big pc gamer and the difference i thought was noticeable in the graphics. I have heard bad things about vista as well but also good things. Just wanted to find some people who are gamers out there who can tell me if dx10 is worth getting vista?

I personally think Vista is wonderful. I can understanding not upgrading an older PC that works fine with XP to Vista, but I can't imagine why anyone would put a 5+ year old OS on a brand new PC.

Vista in my opinion is the best piece of software I've ever owned. Computer Shopper UK edition Dec 07 said it was the best Operating System EVER and I love it. You do need 1 to 2 GB of RAM though to run efficiently.

But the Brits also like hot beer, kippers, the spice girls and blood pudding. So go figure! :)

In it's current form, vista is not ready for the average user. There are driver problems, hardware problems and software problems. Once SP2 comes out, it might be worth it. It might take another year or 2 before it is up to XP's standard.

iv'e had vista for about 1yr now when i first got it i had nothing but troubles i was so tempted to put xp pro back on but i stayed in there with vista and now my computer runs perfectly sweet with no hickups and i will NEVER use xp again.

After doing some registry tweaks, and diabling a few things. Im in love with Vista I have Vista Business that I got from MS School programs. Im extremly happy, it seems more peppy and smoother than XP.

i too have vista business and was wondering what registry tweaks/dabbles did you do to make it better/faster? if there's anything i can do to make it run better/faster i would like to do so.

If your a gamer, you will need windows vista just because in the future you will need dx 10, wether you get it now or later thats just up to you. Spend 100 now and get xp and 200 later to get vista, or spend 250 now and get vista.

vista???

My room mate plays a lot of games on his new lap top and has had a lot of issues with vista. It is common knowledge that any new windows os that comes out usually takes about 3 yrs and several service packs before it actually becomes good.....yay!!! we have a new os.... let's release it and beta test it in the market.....eventually it will be a good os. unless there is a drastic improvement in graphics.... I would stick with xp for another year. Why not wait for vista to become the best it can before using it.

250? couldn't you just buy an oem version for 100-150? my main problem with vista was the slow startup and shutdown times but i used vista manager to speed those up and i have noticed a significant difference.

the fact is eventually vista will become the norm so you may as well get it now and get used to it. i also feel that networking is much more user friendly on vista than xp

I have Vista Business (see Sig), but sometimes i get problems just doing simple things, it takes long, when i take a look at start-up it takes forever, to think only 4 programs are loaded :P
but regarding the OS acting strange due to viruses, that i haven't seen yet.
but vista right now ? not worth it, it will when the SP's are official and go to go, from there we can convert :)

I've got a 3800 AMD 64X2 dual core processor
250GB hard drive
Nvidia 6150LE GEforce graphics card
4 gb of memory

With this Vista Home Premium runs like absolute garbage! It freezes constantly, isn't compatible with anything, has a huge lack of support, and has been an absolute nightmare!! XP I MISS YOU!

DO NOT BUY!!! BUYER BEWARE!!

Ive never heard about hot beer before, but everything else is excellent. And I am British. :P

I have also got to say, ive been running Vista for a year and never once had a problem. I love how quick it is also, everything runs faster on vista :)
