Is win 8 any good ?

If you could choose between Windows 7 and 8, which one would you pick ?

I got a key for 8 but i already have 7, should i install it ?

I still prefer Windows 7. I see no benefit in the metro UI for a desktop without a touch screen. I like the traditional desktop and start menu.

IMO, Win 8.x is good but not good enough that I would upgrade a working Win 7 machine with it. My existing machines with Win 7 stay on Win 7 but new machines get Win 8.x.

Once you get past the Metro Start screen, there really isn't that much difference between the 2 OSes.

Windows 8.1 gets my vote...stock though i HATE it!

Ive got Startisback installed,Also edited the registry to remove the touch swipe screen that appears before the login screen and turned off all live tiles.

Then its basically Windows 7 but improved.

dw, stock is never enough for me :D

Windows 8.1 is far better then 7 in terms of performance and security. It now boots to traditional desktop for non touch screens and metro can be organized in a way which is more functional then the start menu from Windows 7.

Really you'll probably have fun with Windows 8. Most of the people who hate it are either 1. People who have been using the standard Start menu for a very long time (you're fifteen, so that's impossible), and 2. People who just go along with what people say (somebody hears a guy say W8 sucks, then another guy foes even though he didn't use it, and soon enough it spreads enough to where it seems like fact).

Now there are some people who just genuinely don't like the Start screen for genuine reasons, but it's quite rare. Give it a chance before using Startisback.

Exactly. You hit the nail on the head. Don't judge it until you've used it for a good month or two every day.

I would never even consider going back to 7 on my primary machines.

I recently bought a new laptop/tablet with windows 8.1 and so far I am loving it!

Windows 8.1 does everything that windows 7 did but just faster and the UI is so fluid and easy to get used to unless you have used the Start Menu in previous Microsoft OS's.

I would definitely recommend it!

Going to piggy back off this and ask if it's worth it to upgrade from W7 to 8.1 for free on my desktop. I've used 8.1 on my laptop and don't have a problem with it. I can get a free copy through school.

The answer is yes. Especially since (like me! ;) ) you can get it free through education! :D

Your situation is pretty much same as mine so like everyone explained to me, yes it is totally worth it.
