ISP recommendations UK

Ok people need some recommendations for a decent ISP in the UK

Obviously want fast speed along the lines of 8mb minimum.

However my other two needs are that its unlimited and that theres little or no restriction on P2P, specifically newsgroups!

My current provider has started to restrict and my speeds are regularly below 10kb/s which is taking the piss a tad!

So whats peoples ideas, cable isn't an option round here unfortuantely!
 
pipex have a pretty heavy fair use policy that would kill me, cheers for the suggestion though :)

Main ones are:

BT
Sky (if you have Sky TV)
Bulldog

They're the ones that spring to my mind first. I'm with BT, if you go with them just DO NOT sign up for the "UpTo 8Mb" service, it's utter crap

BT are capped

Sky has a fair usage policy that just isn't defined enough for my liking, it wouldnt be too bad if they gave details of usage on peak and off peak but they basically say no large downloading...not very handy!

Bulldog unfortunately are not available in my area at the momen


BE are going to be available in march next year and can offer ADSL2 by that time with up to 24mb so I am tempted to hold on until then. Unfortunately means 3 months of shockingly bad speeds!
 
as i say in the post fella, sadly can't get cable here, no lines in for it yet so keep getting offered virgin broadband in its place! :(
 
i go well beyond that trust me.

orange BB ditched me for going 150GB over their 1GB cap they gave me :)

and before anyone starts asking yes it is all legal!

Oh yea, sorry about that mate, must of skimmed over it too fast.

Unfortunatly, ADSL isn't very good for offering uncapped high speed, un-restricted services, and you're finding out. And to get the 8mb they offer, you practicaly have to live next to the exchange.
 
I know it may sound bad but AOL......no cap....no download limits....and also cheap

They are going through some moving with Talk Talk. Aslong as you do not install the AOL program onto ANY system you will be fine.

I use my computer ShoutCast server for a friend running at 256kb/s, i dont know how much I use but it is a hell of alot.

Tec support is O.K but not ther best after 7.30.....reasons...india call center
 
The best 3 @ the mo i reckon have to be:

Demon http://www.demon.net 8Mbps, Unlimited downloads £19/m free modem free setup

Tiscali Max Unlimited http://www.tiscali.co.uk Stats same as above but is £17/m

Be Unlimited http://www.bethere.co.uk (the one your considering said about) Upto 24Mbps free wireless router free setup £24/m

Be sounds sweet, but did you know that Demon has its servers stored offshore, and that because of this government e.t.c have major trouble getting hold of its users details because there laws dont apply there and Demon are very loyal to there customers!

Oh yer - in case you didnt know all adsl (ones above) require that you have a BT phone line, which you prob got anyway, but just thought i put that in here
