i have an Hp pavillion its a celeron with 512mb ram, and 32mb on board video, my issue is, this was my aunts and her harddrive went out, and she gave it to me, and i have a new harddrive in it, but there are no bios coming up and nothing to get the boot menu, i tried hiiting the F2 and F8 and F12 all those things, is there a ways i can get it to reconize and boot the xp disc,>?
 
Did you try hitting the Delete key during boot?

Just to make sure, you put a new hard drive in, but when you try to boot, it does nothing? No screen comes up at all? Or you just can't get into the bios?
 
The HP logo is probably hiding the screen that shows you when to hit the delete key.

From the fist moment you turn on the computer, start hitting the Del key. If it gets to the HP logo and just sits there, reboot and try the f8 key.

One of those should get you into the bios.
 
ok heres what happends, i hit delete repediatley as soon as i i see logo and before nothing happends, i hit f2 f8 f12 nothing. it goes to a black screen and with a white line. the harddrive isnt new, so it asks start windows in safe mode and last known settings and all that. i hit any of them and the comp restarts.
 
You said at first you had a new hard drive in it, now your saying it isn't new? And if you are waiting until you see the HP logo to start hitting the keys, then you are waiting to long. As soon as you turn it on, start hitting the keys mentioned.
 
i tried that, i ment to say i put a new harddrive in it, replacing the one that went out. I tried hitting the keys as soon as the comp is on, nothing.

Have you tried removing 1 stick of ram (if you have more than 1 that is)

How about checking all of the connections.

Video card set in correctly? ( if it has a video card)

Jumper on the new hard drive set correctly? (IDE drive I am guessing)

Power supply working right?
