Issues with hp dc6000 laptop

I am at my wits end with this laptop.

I received this laptop with a dead hard drive.Installed a new SATA hd with a fresh install of windows xp along with all the drivers.Updated all drivers too.

about twenty min in I get a blue screen.SO

I tried another hd with another fresh install of windows xp.Updated all the drivers and installed the latest security from microsoft.Also ran a copy of AVast on the machine and there are no saved files or folders on the computer so I know I am not dealing with a virus.


So Ive tried everything I know to do.Flashed the bios,removed memory and put only one card in at a time,installed speedfan ETC.Tried un-installing the video card and running without it for a while.Same thing 20 min or so in blue screen

Speed fan is detecting that hd 45c core1 51c core 2 63c.core 2 does seem to rise to 70 at times of heavy traffic.

I ran Othros and it passes all the test until I get the blue screen of death.

So someone help me out.What next?
 
Pay close attention to any information displayed when seeing the next BSOD come up. Often a hardware or even a software driver is trying to load into a system reserved memory address or you may be seeing something besides a drive on the way out where there may be a specific error or code shown there.

I am not seeing anything like that.

Its a
dv6000 and not a dc as listed above
 
Is that the dv6000, dv6000t, or dv6000z? There are three different models with the dv6000 seeing an AMD Turion while the dv6000z sees a Core 2. HP only provides specifications on the dv6000 omitting that from the others at their support site. The quick answer turns out to be either XP or Vista since the newer dv6000z model Core 2 comes with Vista on it.

This came in with a dead hd and installed a previously owned copy of xp on this machine.

I don't think its the OS because this is the second time I have installed it on this computer with two different drives and getting the same problems.

Its the dv6000 with no letter in the end
 
That wasn't for the OS but to know the specifications more or less. The onboard graphicschip is one possible cause. Another would be the cpu since you have tried running on only one dimm unless both were faulty?

Besides trying one dimm at a time have you run memtest or another memory stress tester/diagnostic tool? 20 minutes in suggests bad ram or simply with those cpu temps things are getting hot causing immediate issues. A notepad/laptop cooling pad is a thought since the temp for the hard drive is also high.

One thing to note however is that Speedfan may giving you false high temps since 65-70C is max threshold temps for many newer or more recent Intel as well as AMD model cpus. An overheated cpu will kick in any overheat protection circuit that is equipped with in the board design while higher temps on a hard drive is not good either.

Thanks,,I think I will try one of those fans before going any further.
 
I don't know if that model sees a hardware monitor in the bios. But that would be worth a look once the laptop temps are seen high since the most accurate are seen when immediately rebooting and getting in there rather fast.

A few other programs to consider in case the version of SpeedFan is providng false temps are PC Wizard 2008 found at http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php and a stand alone system information tool known as System Info for Windows(SIW)) available at http://www.gtopala.com/

The SIW tool sees two versions one you simply run by double clicking on it or manually creating a shortcut you drag onto the desktop or the stand alone installer that will create that for you. PC Wizard however will offer video card temps in addition to those seen for the cpu while being a regular software seeing new entries in the registry. SIW doesn't. Give each a try and compare to what is seen in the bios if that sees a monitor there.
 
Good news,

I dug around on the net and found out that HP has a class action suit on these and I let HP know I was going to be joining it and they are going to fix my laptop for free ONE TIME
 
I don't know how far you will get there but you can see what they say. :P

You would have been covered by the original warranty anyways by simply having left the original drive inplace provided you also bought an extension. Since that was dead issue to begin with you now have to put it back in before shipping it back to them to see if they will still replace the bad drive or the unit itself since you have had continuing problems.

I got in touch with customer service.They will indeed fix this under warranty on a one time courtesy repair according to the way she said it.They sent me a box to pack it in with all the paperwork necessary to send it back along with a next day return label free of charge.They said I should have it back in 7-10 business days.

That's great news for you then since they will correct that by simply seeing a hopefully working replacement drive used. Someone there will likely make sure the replacement drive actually works before shipping back to you. At least you are getting a freebie under warranty so don't knock it. :D

Don't worry I am not knocking it a bit.

Its coming back with Vista on it which is fine.I am going to drop a different drive in it when it gets here and be back in the xp business soon enough.
 
I'm running both on the desktop here on a pair of sata drives plus put the old ide drive back in still seeing a working but troublesome copy of Vista there. I was planning to wipe that for a dual boot of Mandriva's latest 2009 release now out along with ubuntu 8.10 until finding out that SP2 will be out in candidate release form in Q1 2009.

Now that's rather fast since it took XP longer to finally see SP2 3yrs. after it's initial 2001 release. In less then 2yr.s for Vista to see all updates rolled up as well as some fixes and newer support for Bluetooth added in.
