Issues With MW2 on PC

I got MW2 about a week ago for PC. I was slightly put off by all the negative reviews about the game due to no dedicated servers but got it anyway. I'm glad I did, it's a lot of fun, and I've already clocked 10 hrs into the multiplayer, which is a lot for me in a week.

The first few days I had it I would have some lag issues where I would just start rubberbanding and my ping would go down to 1 bar, then back up to 4-5 and then it would be fine. Just inconsistent. It still does it every once in a while, but not nearly as much, maybe like once or twice a day, rather than a dozen times a day. I think it was my connection at first and now the other times it's just bad servers possibly.

Ok onto the question itself.

Whenever I fire up the game I click on play and try to join a Team Deathmatch. It will say in the top right we need to find X more players. Most of the time it just sits there and says that and slowly counts up to finding games with higher and higher ping before it just says searching for games.

I did this for a few minutes and I got no where. I then got out of the lobby and tried again. I would keep doing this. Then randomly it would immediately start working, either by putting me instantly into a game or making up a list of "matched players."

So basically, it only sees the servers occasionally. Once I get into a game all is well, but connecting can take me several minutes before my computer registers there are other games out there.

It's been doing this ever since I got it.

Thoughts?

I think it has a lot to do with there are not all that many players left on that game. I noticed the same thing when Black Ops came out. The MW2 servers were dead and I could not get into most games that were not TDM. Just not enough players.

Everyones playing bf3 beta :P durrr.

In all honesty though i agree with salvage it is pretty much dead, i bought it when i got my computer as i hated black ops and it takes 4-5minutes for me to get into a game, plus there are a lot of problems so it put people off when there are far more superior games with less problems i geuss.

I reckon the bf3 beta could also have a bit to do with it too.

PC multiplayer games don't keep the same community console versions do.

There are at least 4-5000 players when I get on, sometimes up to 30,000. I don't think that's the issue. I think it's a connection problem. Just not sure what.

I'd like to mention I've only been play Team Death Match so far. When it's working right, it sees game and immediately connects me to one. Just getting it to see any games at all doesn't work, even when there are several thousand people in TDM alone.

I am aware that it doesn't

If there are 5000 players in a game there is a good chance that 4980 of them are playing in a game already. So with the 20 left over some might not fit well for your game (for connection issues etc...) so the system has to wait till the games change payers leave and so on. I hop on every once in a while and I experience the same thing. I sometimes will hop right into a game and sometimes I need to wait for a few minutes for a game. Even when the game was popular, it would still take me a while to get into a game sometimes.

Yeah, this is a common problem and no real fix. You also have to take into account that its also trying to match you with people near you, and people with around the same ping.

Turns out that if I open up MW2 then alt tab out and do something else for a few minutes then go back, it will connect immediately. Weird.
