It's amazing how cheap technology gets

a little under 3 years ago I payed 360 bucks for my Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 Ghz... Now you can get that same CPU for like 120 bucks.

What's the new thing now? everyone is getting quad cores at around 3.0 GHz?

My question is this... At this point is a quad core really necessary? It doesn't seem like many new programs have came out in this time frame that really demand that type of processing power does it? Unless maybe your a graphic designer or something?

True,

My new quad core is well beyond my needs today - but I just replaced a P4 with it . 3-5 years from now - it should still be working fine for my needs. If not I'll build another one.

I was using 2 PC's to multitask - now I got 1 PC with 2 monitors doin the same thing.

I've heard that games and applications that will take full use of quad-core power will start coming out in July actually.
When I was in the games forum earlier I read people saying things like, 'Don't play that on anything lower than a quad' and 'Buy a quad if your planning to upgrade, games will rely on them now'.
Thats just what I've heard. Plus with a quad you can be assured it'll lasts a couple more years and not get outdated too soon :)

No it isn't unless you plan on installing Windows 7 which will be coming out Oct 23, 2009. Windows 7 take more advantage of the muti cpu's

Well PC prices are dropping extremely. For what i have paid $2000 in 2001 it would be worth $10 nowadays, well maybe a bit more, but really not $50
